Hymns & Prayers

A few prayers and hymns used at School Assembly.

Assembly Pledge »

India is my country.
All Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall give respect to my parents, teachers and all elders and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone lies my happiness.

Prayer for the Country »

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Into that heaven of freedom, my father let my country awake.
Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert of dead habit
Where the mind is led foreword by thee into ever widening thought and action

- Rabindranath Tagore

Prayer before Studies »

O God, You are all wise and loving.
Bless our studies which we offer you.
Enlighten our minds, strengthen our memory and
Direct our wills towards what is right and
Grant us your grace to speak the truth always and make us truly wise.

Prayer after Studies »

Lord of knowledge, we thank you for our lessons today,
for the knowledge and wisdom we have acquired.
Give us the grace to retain all that we have studied and help us to grow in true wisdom.
Keep O Lord, thy Holy hands upon us,
So that no harm either of soul or body may happen to us. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer »

Our Father in Heaven
Holy be your name
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us our sins as we forgive
Those who sin against us
Do not bring us to the test
But deliver us from evil.

Morning Has Broken »

Morning has broken like first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

Sweet the rain’s new fall
Sunlight from heaven
Like the first dewfall
On the first grass
Praise for the sweetness
Of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness
Where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light
Eden saw play
Praise with elation
Praise every morning
God’s re-creation
Of the new day.

- Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)

Make Me A Channel »

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow Your love
Where there is injury, Your pardon Lord
And where there's doubt true faith in You.

Oh! Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there’s despair in life let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness ever joy

Make me a channel of Your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to each one that we receive
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

- St. Francis of Assisi

A Prayer is a most powerful and wonderful medium - because by praying we can achieve great power to do good to others.
